Pulp Summer Slam - Forever

pulp summerslam forever poster

My Rock en Roll days had been long gone (climbed security fence just to be at the back stage, been hit in the face by an ROTC combat boots thrown by an agitated bouncer, and been at the bottom of a stampede within the moshpit gasping for air) but here is Pulp commencing their 8th yearly Summer Slam entitled “Forever”. The idea behind the title might have been the fact the that number eight (8) is the only digit that presents continuity in its stroke.

I have been to, at least, five (5) or six (6) Pulp Summerslam stint and I could say eight (8) things I’ve experienced from the previous annual events.

First, if you plan to go this April 26, 2008 at the Amoranto Stadium, be there at the earliest time possible. The line from the entrance could go farther that you could imagine and, if you’re able to come in by the time the gates open, who knows, you might be able to get some autographs or pics from your favorite band/s.

Second, bring your most rugged looking backpack with your extra shirt, alcohol (colognes or perfumes for this particular event is useless and for pussies), and bottled water.

Third, in line with the previous reminder, wear something that wouldn’t make you look like your going to hear mass on a Sunday nor look like a slut (term applies to all genders including in betweens). It’s a rock event for chrissake!

Fourth, don’t bring your own lighter and cigarettes. Chances are, by the end of the event, your lighter is in someone else’s hand and your cigars puffed away by other lungs. At this point, better be the asking kind than the giving kind.

Fifth, just bring enough money. For sure there will still be freebies like a slice of pizza, a bottle or can of pepsi, and a lukewarm red horse beer (lohols) so you wouldn’t need that big amount of money.

Sixth, LOAD! For those prepaid users, it’s better that you have extra credits loaded unto your mobile phones. Communication is vital so don’t lose or misplace your unit.

Seventh, DON’T bring your girlfriends or your friend girls (that is you respect them) to the moshpit. Stay within the bleachers or as far away from all those banging, nudging, kicking, slamming, dust, and sweat. You know what I’m saying and thinking. Nuf said.

Eight, be PREPARED! Be ready for flying materials that you could ever imagine flying out of nowhere or everywhere especially if and when cueshe is playing, spongecola is playing, and hale is playing. I don’t know. There’s just something about “pogi rock” that magnets materials towards them. All sorts of them.

Inspiration came from endless playback of the witch doctors of underground jazz improvisation (wdouji), sound (bossa manila album), and a strong yearning to shoot the streets of manila with someone who owe me a case of Super Dry and a fine ol’ cigar from Vigan.

Kolektib

If you would notice, there would be thirty-six (36) pigeon holes there which represents different individuals that compose the organization called KOLEKTIB. These individuals, though coming from different professions and walks of life, have a common denominator among them which is passion for art, creativity and expression.

This morning, I took my first ever formal photography lessons with Sir Allan Florendo in this studio slash class, which by the way is the HQ for Lomo Manila, in the former Marikina Shoe Expo now known as Cubao Shoe Expo or Cubao X. The class started at 8 in the morning with a group of more or less fifteen (15) individuals holding different preferences of photography arsenal. Some where Canon users, Olympus, Nikon, Sony, Lomo, etc. But all are photography enthusiasts.

The class tackled Basic Creative Photography with a little bit of Photoshop editing which entails the fundamentals when it comes to photography techniques that would sure make you a better photographer to enable you to take better pictures. After all, photos and pictures taken are meant to be shared so might as well share something beautiful and pleasant.

The class was very loose in the sense that learning was fun and relaxed. Students were encouraged to take five (5) to ten (10) minutes of application via photo taking after a specific set of techniques are taught and we were also encouraged to have a productive critic of each others photos. I could say that after the class everybody were inspired, especially me, to further learn photography.

There would be another class that would discuss a more technical aspect of photography like exposures, metering, etc. though there has been no formal announcement yet as to when this would be but for sure I would be there again as I’ve reserved myself a seat in that forth coming class. For those who are interested just visit the link within Sir Allan’s name above for details are updated and posted there. Hope to see you in the class! You’ll definitely learn a lot if you are a newbie like me. :D

UNO

No perv! This ain’t about the Nicole Hernandez and Maike Evers edition of UNO mag you’ve always wanted to have. LOL. On this day, the 17th of March, I celebrate the official day of unexpected events. You got that right. Oh stop whining you little p***y… This is my moment ya know?!

Anyhow, today is my first year of living in cyber space. Never considered myself being a geek or a nerd which are terms closely associated with science, technology, and (Ahem) losers bullied at school. Just kiddin’. I love these kinds of special individuals. Lol.

For a year now, and I never thought that I would, have been working in an industry not congruent with the education I took from some royal pontifical catholic university visible only during low tides. I am happy with the way things are going since I have been a huge fan of technology though what I have known since was only limited to modifying and assembling desktop pc’s and spending long hours of the night playing with gaming consoles.

The kind of lifestyle I now have had changed considering the fact that I literally have been dependent on the Internet to get what I want and need to know. I’ve been spending at least 10 to 14 hours in front of the blue led screen navigating streams of binary algorithms looking for the Promised Land. What the F?! Speak in English puhlease?!

Before, I only depend on the Internet to get my daily dose of free porn. But since I was still using pre-paid net cards back then, I have abandoned my efforts to satisfy my carnal cravings due to limitations in bandwidth and largely because I am a devout Christian. Lol.

Okay enough with the playing. Why did I consider this day worthy of celebration? Yes I know celebrations are commonly based on days, weeks, months, years, etc. However, beyond those numerical figures, celebrations are held as such because of the significance a particular event had on one’s life.

I consider this day significant.

I landed on this industry by chance. Actually, it was Ajill who made me land on this job. She was the one who sent my resume over the company I’m currently working at without my knowledge. I was surprised that a week or so before this said date I received a call for an interview schedule.

Come interview day I’ve set my expectations in such a way that I’d be prepared emotionally to take whatever the outcome of my application would be knowing that prior to that interview, I’ve had several applications turned down. Imagine going through the screening process without your self-esteem. Sigh.

But, as difficult as it may seem, I have to bear it. Life is full of challenges which should be seen as opportunities to really make yourself and make you remember to smile because God is good. And so He is.

It’s been a really fun first year. I’ve been surrounded by very talented people who I look up to and who are a joy to work with. I want to take this chance to thank them for being patient with me and seeing the potential in me that even I had not noticed.

To sir Marc and madame Riz thanks so much. I really learned a lot from you guys even in a short span of time. To sir Gabz and sir Mito… Penge Pera… Lol. To madame RoanneLove hurts but sometimes it’s a good a hurt and it makes you feel alive. Peace! Lol. To the rest of the team TJ and Lauren – BJ! Best Job! Lol. Pa-Pizza naman kayo diyan! Lol. To Isko, my first seatmate - you sick gay perv you! Lol. To Mom and Ajill… I owe a lot to you… Thanks and Much Love!

Across the Universe

across the universe

I’m not really into musical type of films or movies but I have to say that Across the Universe would definitely add to the list of DVD’s I would want to collect apart from Joel Schumacher’s The Phantom of the Opera. Yeah I know Chicago is a musical-ish type of film and Moulin Rouge also centers on Love as a thought and feeling but Across the Universe is different. Much different.

Watching the movie while singing some of the song lines there made me remember my high school days when I’m doing my homeworks or projects during weekends in front of my room’s tv. I stay tuned over ABC 5 back then. The tv station played music videos, some were colored but most were black and white of course, of the Beatles when the station was just starting. Ah, those were the days.

I might be biased here but as the title itself states, Across the Universe not only moved beyond geography, culture, or lifestyle. It, most importantly, transcended time and space in general through Music. The Beatles Music. Across the Universe is definitely a classic and one of the few musical-ish type of film I could sing and relate to apart from The Phantom of the Opera and Annie.

I don’t want to give any movie spoiler, coz you better watch it for yourself, other than saying here in my blog that this movie, Across the Universe, had a wonderful rendition of classic Beatles songs and a well thought musical arrangement. Two thumbs up!

Yeah you guessed it right! Or did you now? It’s Colbie Caillat (pronounced as “Kobe Kaley”). The one who made the song “Bubbly” famous especially among the feminine. LOL. What am I doing at the mini - concert? Just goofin’ around with my kit.

Anyhow, just a bit of trivia here for those who aren’t aware yet. The song “Bubbly”, as confessed by Colbie, was created inside her room feeling, or rather yearning, for a significant other in her life then. She further explained that the said song embodies that kind of feeling when you have a crush and you have jitters or butterflies inside your stomach. How divine.

Well, yes I’ve been there and I could tell that what I find pleasant about being in that kind of situation is that you find everything in a suspension. There is always an element of surprise and anticipation that makes your stomach turn upside - down or inside - out. Does s/he like me? Did s/he noticed my new whatev. And so on and so forth. Yeah I’ve been there and I’m smiling right now at the thought of reminiscing those days. LOL.

Those were the days. Those were my Bubbly days. LOL.

Brandon Boyd by Ajill…

These shots were taken by Ajill using a digital camera under low light situations during the Incubus Pacific Rim Tour Concert. Do apologize for these are but only a few of the shots taken that I could edit. That A - HOLE MTV production crew confiscated the 2GB flash memory of my D40. Fuck!
