I’ll be going to Hidalgo (a small town located just at the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro) soon to get me stuffs for my D40 and I’m having a hard time in deciding what to get knowing that I want them both. LOL.
What I’m looking forward to get is an external flash that is compact, light, affordable yet does the job well just like the ones used by pros. So after much research, I have an option of getting an SB 400 external flash. An accessory much needed when shooting in low-light conditions just like in the upcoming Light Grenades concert. However, SB 400 displays results much than just giving the ample amount of light during photo shoots. You see, I’ve learned that proper lighting is the most essential when taking shots. It controls the depth of field or background of your image when, let’s say, you want to bring out the vastness of your subjects’ surroundings or you want to get an angle of the subject not revealed to arid eyes.
Another thing I want to get my D40 is a lens that would compliment, not replace, my kit lens. It is true, the 18-55mm kit lens that came along with the D40 body is powerful if you know how to use and play with it. However, though powerful as it is, it still has limitations to it. Limitations I hope to discover and be resolved by getting a 55-200mm VR lens. LOL again. I’m getting a 55-200mm VR lens rather than the 18-200mm VR lens because of Ken Rockwell’s reviews and recommendations of the said lenses. But ultimately I’ll be getting the 55-200mm VR lens due to budget constraints. Sad.
Here is where the dilemma stands; I have enough dough to buy these stuffs but I am being hesitant to get all of them in one blow. As Confucious (Khun-Few-Shoes) said, and I quote, “When you experience prosperity, don’t use them all”. I ain’t Chinese but you don’t have to be one to put value on your hard on (oops) hard earned money.
My point is, if you were in my shoes, what would you prioritize in buying? SB 400 or 55-200mm VR lens? CCs are most welcome.
